It functions by inhibiting the activity of specific enzymes in the intestines (like sucrose) that break down food and release sugars into the bloodstream. By decelerating the digestive process, Glucobay aids in preventing elevated blood sugar levels that can occur after meals.

 

Adhere to the guidelines provided by your healthcare provider when using Glucobay. This medication should be taken with the first bite of each main meal. Your physician may prescribe a dosage of 25 mg, three times daily. However, your dosage may be modified, and a maintenance dose ranging from 50 mg to 100 mg (also taken three times daily) may be recommended.

 

Possible side effects include nausea, vomiting, gas, abdominal pain, and digestive issues.

 

If you have a history of cirrhosis, ketoacidosis, or any intestinal disorders, you must inform your doctor prior to using Glucobay.

 

While Glucobay alone does not induce hypoglycemia, there is a chance of this occurring if prescribed alongside other diabetes medications.
